Re: What have you opened this week?
Yesterday I was happy that I made it past Satruday without anyone wishing me happy bday on Facebook. It wasn't easy but I managed to outfox the masses
Some friends were over at the house yesterday for some BBQ and wine to celebrate. I opened a slew of things from my cellar, including a couple Douro wines and a magnum of 1997 Sandeman Vau Vintage Port and a 1968 Krohn's Colheita (the later note is now posted).

Re: What have you opened this week?
Stewart was here earlier this week and we shared a 1990 Quinta do Vesuvio VP which was the best bottle I've ever tried from that year, almost no bake at all. Very solid and surprisingly so. I had never had one that I enjoyed before.

Last night was a 1983 Fonseca. Nothing special. There's about 1/4 left for tonight.

Noval Silval 2000 from half bottle. It is getting there! Still full of fruit and tannins almost fully integreted, lots of fun!

Sandeman 20yo Tawny, finer and fresher than I recall, I really like this house's 20yo.

I've been tasting the 1989 and 1990 vintages occasionally over the last 10-15 years. I'm convinced that the Douro bake is integrating into the overall flavour profile and moving away from being off-putting to being a layer of complexity that adds to the overall impression of the port.Roy Hersh wrote:Stewart was here earlier this week and we shared a 1990 Quinta do Vesuvio VP which was the best bottle I've ever tried from that year, almost no bake at all. Today I opened a bottle of 1994 Martinez. What a great port! Not with the weight and power of Taylor, but great finesse and complexity. Really lovely.

Re: What have you opened this week?
1996 Sao Pedro Das Aguias VP. It was much more developed than I would expect for a 1996–more like a 1983. And for a 1983 it wouldn't be a top three bottle, but it would rank above average.

I love the 1994 Martinez. It's a good earlier drinker from that vintage.

My last Kopke 40-yr old from the first (?) Kopke buying opportunity. These were bottled in 2006 and have mellowed very nicely over the years.
