I came back from Portugal recently with a bottle of Quinta do Marco 1999 purchased from the Noval shop. Purchased mainly because it was a bottle I've not seen before.

Port Harvest Tour haul:
3 x Quinta da Romaneira 40 year old Tawny Port (new blend, label has no red on it)
2 x Quinta de Brunheda 40 year old Tawny Port
2 x Quinta de Brunheda 80 year old cask sample

And one 200 ml gift bottle of Maynard's 20 year old Tawny Port, brought home primarily because my wife's maternal grandfather's name was Maynard.

Well doesn't that just make my purchase look measly? But at least I can say that I bought as much proper port as Eric and Glenn did combined.
Proper = bottled 2-3 years after the vintage rather than left in a barrel and forgotten for 80 years while the spiders and fruit flies swim in it.

I can say as of about 2 weeks ago I am now in possession of a 1973 Port, my birth year. A gift from a Port producer. No idea where this person found it but we opened one and we tried it and I was also given an unopened bottle for me to take home for a later bday. Very thoughtful and nice of the person. It's a 1973 Vinho Velho do Douro "Berco do Vinho do Porto" "Regua" "Garrafeira Particular". I can only gather it came from a property somewhere in or around Regua. It was quite sweet, delicate, and past it's best days but slightly chilled was enjoyable.

It's okay, Alex, your secret love of the brown sticky stuff is safe with us. We won't tell.

Thanks Roy. I was inspired to bid on it based on a few of your tasting notes.

I wonder if you're the one who beat me out on the Warre '63 I bid on over at Heritage Auctions this week? Oh well. Win some lose some.
