a few 70 Delaforce $50
Burmester 30year tawny
Noval 40 year tawny
Taylor 30 year tawny

If anyone in the Boston area want some of the 70 Delaforce, there almost a case left. Place has a decent discount policy, too.

Picked up a magnum of 1977 Smith Woodhouse VP. I had it from Magnum at the April 2009 tasting in San Francisco (see my article in the current newsletter) and this was drinking so well then I just couldn't resist getting it.

Thus far I have been purchasing and enjoying young Port (and that will probably be the case for awhile), but today was my first splurge--I bought a Kopke Colheita from my birth year, so I can drink it for my 30th birthday this year. Gotta have a few things to help me look forward to hitting that milestone. [dash1.gif]

That's a great port to celebrate your birthday Melanie! I like the 80 Kopke a lot. :-)

I bought a bottle of Niepoort's 30 year old tawny. This one was bottled in 1982 and therefore is now 58 years old.

Might as well go for 60 then, 30 in the cask, 30 in the bottle, if you can resist. Let us know how it tastes. [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]

This week I picked up a bottle of Quinta do Vesuvio 2003 for $75. Perhaps not the bargain of the century, but considering that this is the most beautiful young VP I've ever tasted it felt like a steal. I'm psyched to finally have one in my collection! [cheers.gif]

Over the weekend I acquired:

2 x Casa de Santa Eufemia Special Reserve White Port (the infamous unlabeled 1973 Colheita)
1 x 1997 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

The Eufemias were just sitting on a shelf in a wine store at the Chelsea Market in NYC. I opened one of them at a tasting and wasn't impressed. Lacking fruit, fairly hot, and much drier than I expected. It's possible that the bottle was heat damaged, though. I have no idea how long the bottles had been sitting upright on the shelf in that store, but they weren't dusty and looked to be in good shape.

No kidding those are cheap. After you try them (and get your own stash) please let the rest of us know if we should stock up too

Had this last night -- really exceptional effort, second only to the 1994 in my opinion. I agree that $75 might not be a 'steal,' but you certainly will only be happy to have this in your cellar in 20+ years.

2x 1997 Smith Woodhouse @ $25 each, at auction from TCWC. I was otherwise outbid on a bunch of other lots, even though I bid above their estimated range on a few. Of course I expected the Taylor 1994 to go for more than their estimates. I bid $90 each, and someone took them for $95.
