Very nice!
I was indeed quite lucky to get this! Through a friend I got a question from someone who had this bottle (from her late husband, she's not a wine or port drinker), about what is was and what her options were.
Once I got some pictures of the bottle, I was able to give her some information and her options. She didn't want to auction it off, and would rather have that a Portlover got to buy it (who will open and enjoy it). And luckily that turned out to be me
![YIKES! [yahoo.gif]](./images/smilies/yahoo.gif)
.
The level of the bottle seems quite ok (very top shoulder), but the capsule is a cracked on top of the bottle (some cork is showing).
I made a simple seal for the time being, as I plan to open it later this year at my 50th Bday.
All in all, a bit of a gamble, but as it's probably the only chance for me to get a VP at this marvellous age (and from a legendary vintage), I thought I should go for it (and also I got it at a fair price, so I could justify it).

What a great story! Let us know how it runs out.

1995 & 1999 Hutcheson VP, one each to try.
With those I finally hit 12 bottles on WineBid to order shipment, took almost 4 months.

2 x 2011 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha
1 x 1945 Fonseca Vintage Port
2 x 1942 Graham Vintage Port
I actually bought the VVV last fall when it was too hot to ship, forgot about it, then re-discovered it today when arranging shipping for the other 3 bottles.
The 1942s extend my vertical back another notch.

The problem with each subsequent step further back in history is that they keep getting more and more expensive! Next Graham VP on the list is, IIRC, 1935. A mere $2,500 each at Vintage Wine & Port in the UK!
After that, there's just 1927, 1924, 1920, 1917, 1916, 1912, 1908, 1904, and 1901 to fill out the century.

These all arrived today... I'd even forgotten about the VVV so it was a pleasant surprise sent into the future by a past me!

What a haul! Very impressive. Was that at auction? If so, which auction house?

Thanks, I bought them at an English auction house called bacchuswineauctions.com.
As the UK is no longer part of the EC, it is quite difficult to ship the bottles to The Netherlands, so I have sent them to an English friend (who is not much into port.....). I'll collect them in June.

Quite curious how the 1995 shows when you open it.
