It seems like a lot of online retailers post their distributors' lists as their own inventories. They don't have any of it in stock, and of course don't know when something is unavailable until after they try to place the order with the distributor. I've run into this on many occasions, but luckily it has usually been when I've called a store about a particular bottle so I wasn't caught by surprise.
If the link says anything about needing 3-5 days for the order, you can bet it's just their distributor's sell sheet and not their actual inventory.

I'm sorry to say I can't make Seattle that weekend, as I have to be in Atlanta that weekend. But the whole topic really intrigues me. I've just ordered some bottles of Dow LBV from 1991, 1992 and 1994, and I'm going to scout out older LBV examples. I'm really interested in how these wines age generally. Should be a really neat, long-term study. Something that eventually needs to get published.

Well here's a very surprising option, 1971 Taylor LBV magnums:

The first is reportedly in better shape, but alas, neither has a picture. I would have liked to see what they look like even without an interest in purchasing. But it is my wife's birth year ... hmmmm.

Hi Eric,
I was planning on bidding on the one with the better description, but I will back off if you're interested in it, especially with it being your wife's birth year. BTW, I've found Winebid to be very accommodating with getting me a description or taking a photo of a bottle where one isn't provided in the auction. I'll ask them for one and pass it on if I get it.

Likewise. Their listings aren't always the greatest, but they're very happy to provide whatever details you need if you contact them directly.
Do let us know what you find out about these... I might get the other one to bring to the tasting just for the fun of it. Or if that's what you were planning on doing, I'll split the cost with you.

I will defer to anyone going to the tasting, as I don't think I'll be there. Go for it John and Glenn.
As I've noted before, I'm foomench on winebid and anywhere else that takes a username. If there are no bids by Sunday, I might consider getting one.

Glenn and Eric,
I won't be going to the tasting as I have to be in Atlanta that weekend. I was only looking because I want to start to accumulate some LBVs to do a study on them, or for some future tasting.

Would be worth getting for the offline coming up.

Hi Lisa,
If you're still looking for older LBVs for the tasting, Flickinger in Chicago still has some Dow 1991 LBV available. I just bought some of the 1991, and unfortunately the remainder of their 1992 and 1994. If you call them, they can confirm that they still have the stock, but they're usually pretty good with it. Here's the
link.

Some CrazyCanuck (no really, that's the userid) is bidding hard on the 1971s. Looks like they're going to be too expensive, but I'll keep an eye on it until the end.

The 1971s went for $300 and $200. CrazyCanuck, indeed.

The guy picked his handle well. After the buyer's premium and shipping, he's going to have almost $600 into those two bottles. I hope they don't suck.

I do not plan on attending, but I do have some 1992 and 1994 Smith Woodhouse LBV that I could offer for sale at a fair price. Please try shopping first, but if you haven't found anything in another month, let me know.
