I just decanted a '77 Taylor Fladgate VP. This was a leaker, so I wanted to get it off death row and consume it. The cork was saturated but came out intact with an ah-so remover. Medium-light colored, has a slight alcohol smell but sweet. I had a big sip after decanting it and it was sweet and light with a gentle alcohol burn which was not unpleasant at all. I'm looking forward to trying this in 7 or 8 hours to see what additional air does for it.

Day 4: this Port is singing. It's softened up and the alcohol is much less prominent. Smooth, sweet and peppery. I'd give this a 93. I'm on my second glass of the night.

How was that '92 Fonseca, Eric? I have a few bottles of it in my cellar (750 ml format). Does it need more time or is it ready to go?

Visited the folks for Super Bowl Sunday and took the opportunity to raid their cellar.

1991 Dow's LBV - T-cork broke while opening, but the stub was successfully extracted. Filtered into a decanter and poured right away, leaving a lot of sediment in the bottle. Started off cloyingly sweet, but that moderated after a bit and it became very plummy. Didn't find it to be anything special on night 1, but will check with my father to see if it gets better.

I've been drinking 375s of this for a while now and they are doing just fine. But they will easily last for many more years. 750s are probably going to be different. I suspect they might be o.k., but if it were me (and it is since I have some 750s as well), I wouldn't open them yet if you have something else to drink.

I can hold off on them for another 5 to 7 years. I have a thing or two to drink between now and then.

The thread is "What have you opened?" Not "What have you tasted?" Image I just decanted it when I posted. That said, I might have snuck a taste. Seems promising. More tasting and TN to follow.

2000 Magalhães VP. I just decanted it and will try a full glass tonight. I do always pour a very small glass to taste right after decanting.
Darkish purple and yet when you pour it, it looks more like a 10 year-old tawny. It smells of sweet pencil lead with a little bit of burnt, candied blueberries and a touch of petrol. Lots of warmth on the mouth with a nice, long aftertaste. More later.

Had some good port over the weekend.

Saturday - '66 Croft VP, '66 Smith Woodhouse, and '99 Ferreira LBV

Sunday - '85 Ferreira VP & '85 Quinta Infantado VP

Everything was terrific and showed well.

I was just going to ask the same question. I just purchased another bottle. The first one I opened was bad. I have 3 other total in my cellar now.
I'm really hoping the others are good, although one of them is a leaker.

2016 Dow VP - Decanted before leaving for work, and SO and I enjoyed it with beef tenderloin that evening, about 12 hours later. An amazing wine: very jammy with a full, velvety mouthfeel and a nibble of tannins. Unforunately, with just a half bottle, it went quickly.
