Delaforce Corte 87

I have a good regard for the '87 vintage, and suspect that despite being undeclared, it may actually have been the best year of an inglorious decade.

But there are exceptions to every rule, and this seems to be one of them. Tired wine, sweet and rather dismal. Drink up if you have any, otherwise avoid - score 1-1

Besides the Taylor Vargellas, what would you recommend from '87?

Churchill Agua Alta, Fonseca Guimaraens and Niepoort all show well.

I don't think I've ever encountered a faulty '87 - unlike '85...

2007 Noval Silval, for the virtual tasting. Not sure if this is the best time for a 2007, but I picked up a bunch of these upon release for $26, so I'm willing to give it a try. I had already pulled one from my "offsite" storage to try sometime soon.

I have a name for stashes of bottles that are split between my main drinking cellar and my holding cellar. I call them 'basket cases' - because I use four bottle wicker baskets to transport bottles from one to the other.

I do recommend using these baskets - they are a comfortable weight to carry and are much safer than a case or carton when navigating cellar steps. They are also remarkably stable in the back of the car, and don't slide around at all.
