How was that? Got one left.
It's been some years since I last opened one and they were on the downhill slide. Not a great year for anyone in the Douro. I'd open it sooner rather than later.

Yes. I wanted to taste it so I could figure out if I wanted to buy more. I loved it, but.... there is none of this wine available in the US.

Jose Maria da Fonseca 40yo Alhambra Moscatel de Setubal. Fantastic!
Visited Fonseca during this years Fortification tour. The high end of the tasting included 20yo Roxo, 40yo Alhambra, and Trilogia. The 20yo punches above its age due to the Roxo grapes, and the other two are in the same average age ballpark. I found all of them to be outstanding and unique in their own way. Very hard to pick a winner. Since the Trilogia is priced 3x the other two, I came home with a couple bottles of the others.
Yes, the Trilogia includes some ancient wine, but I believe the majority of it was ~40yo when bottled.

a plastic water bottle filled with a local wine that was pretty damn good. Tinta roriz, touriga nacional, trincadeira and something else. possibly a white grape.
local means close to Tabua at the moment

Had one of those moments at the last train stop on the Douro. A local passed around his homemade wine from an old water bottle while waiting for the train. It wasn’t bad and a memory I’ll never forget.

I had this a few weeks ago. Unimpressive upon opening, but very impressive on day two. I will be cellaring a few. Have you tried the 2017 Coche?
Btw, think you will be going on a 2020 Madeirathon with Roy?

1995 Caves São João Bairrada Reserva Quinta do Poço do Lobo
No decant, but could have used 30 mins. Still pretty tannic & rich with plenty of acid to hold it.
Drinking quite nicely at our local Portuguese restaurant north of Atlanta, but it can definitely handle more time in the cellar, maybe even 20 years.
Great deal at Last Bottle for $23 last year.

2009 Kopke Douro Reserva
I thought this might be past prime, but it still big, fruity, and tannic. Maybe it isn't as complex as you want, but I was impressed even before I saw that I paid $12 for it.

Cracked one of the recently found 2005 Niepoort Redoma Branco Reserva's I got from Vinfolio.
All bottles I receive from them are sent in thick plastic protective bags and tend to appear in mint condition.
This was no exception. Not even a scratch on the label. Wine was also in perfect shape. Not a hint of ox, needed 30 minutes to open up and kept improving over 3 hours. Am happy to have 3 more in this condition!

I have one of these left. Mine are definitely showing maturation and so I've been drinking them up. It showed surprisingly well over 3 days!
