Oh nice. I saw that auction but forgot about the '34 Fonseca. I believe they had a few lots of it along with a bunch of other nice bottles.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 1:29 pmChristie’s Raby Castle sale. It was cheap.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:34 pmOdd one, not seen much. I can’t recall it being a great VP, but may be mistaken. Why the purchase?Eric Ifune wrote:A case of magnums of 1985 Croft.
Under 250 GBP including fees. I figured, how bad could it be for that price?

250 GP for the entire case? That would be a little over US $13 / 750 ml. Or is a case of Magnums 6 bottles? Still a good deal at approximately $27 aEric Ifune wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 4:35 pmIt was cheap.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:34 pmOdd one, not seen much. 1985 Croft is a perfectly good Port. It won't normally be in the running for Wine of the Night, but maybe from a magnum?

My experience of 1985 Croft is obviously different from Glenn’s! It’s the only wine I have ever sent back twice in a restaurant, both times for being so full of VA as to make it undrinkable. It’s one of the few VPs I actively avoid and never buy, however cheap it gets.Glenn E. wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 5:31 pmThat's a crazy good price, nice score!Eric Ifune wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 4:35 pmIt was cheap.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:34 pm

Eric - I’ll keep my fingers crossed your magnums are clean, but your comment of “how bad could it be for that price?” Reminds me of when Derek bought some Real Vinícola 1985 for £5 a bottle…

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
Ohhh, I bought 2 bottles of 1985 Real Vinicola in my early days of Port. It too was cheap, but not as inexpensive as Derek's purchase. I tried one bottle and it was bad, not VA or TCA bad, just lousy. I haven't had the courage to open the second bottle yet.Al B. wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 4:53 pmMy experience of 1985 Croft is obviously different from Glenn’s! Perhaps you could offer your remaining bottle to Eric for $5. After all, at that price, how bad could it be?Mike J. Well, since I actually like a little VA in my Madeira, I'll stay optimistic. I'll open one when I get them.Al B. wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 5:23 pmPerhaps you could offer your remaining bottle to Eric for $5. After all, at that price, how bad could it be?Mike J. 2000 Vesuvio 6pk
One of those minimum bids that panned out. Didn't expect to win, but then again, I guess many folks are tapped out because of the holidays already so this coming month, the auctions should be good. $43/bottle all-in.
Would sell a pair to Mike and John if they want 'em.

Thanks, I’ll keep you all informed
Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
It’s sales time in the UK and I got convinced to buy - even though I’m not buying more Port! So I bought bottles of São Leonardo 10YO, 20YO, 50YO, 10YO white, 20YO white, Quevedo 2009 white Colheita, Quevedo 1994 Garrafeira (bottled 2021) and Quevedo 2000 Garrafeira (bottled 2021). And an extra Quevedo 2024 prestige Advent Calendar refill pack. All from Vintage Wine & Port in the UK.
