I came across this bottle recently and was intrigued. If anyone knows the story behind this bottling, please do share.

It carries an IVP sello and, I’m guessing, was bottled before 1988.

Is that the limited edition sold with the VVO Vermuth and VVO Quinado?

Yeah, I've seen that label before, too, but can't place it.

I doubt it's the limited edition 3-pack, because IIRC Alex has/had one of those. Also that looks like a 750 ml bottle, and the 3-pack was 375 ml bottles. (I think.)

It’s not the limited edition version of the VVO tawny (which was a 3 half bottle pack) but that’s a great thought Eric — I wonder if it’s the same wine, just bottled in 750ml format in the 1980s.

And for anyone wondering, that’s a bottle of Kopke 2010 White Colheita you can see on the floor next to the open door of the wine cabinet.

Some internet sleuthing. It appears to be a label that they've used for quite some time. At least back into the 1960's and probably into the 1940's or 1950's based on one old picture I've found. Given how long they've produced it, I will take a wild guess that it was a label for a specific region(s) and that it isn't a super old blend. Probably something in the 20-ish year range...but that is a total guess based on the past use of "old tawny" verbiage on labels.

Just came up with a small stash of bottles of Burmester:
Colheita 1978 and 1963
SQVP from 1992 - Burmester's Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo

The Colheitas are in great shape, the 1963 with a perfect fill level and the 1978 medium-neck.

The 1992 SQVP is in top form, one cellar, but the label is a bit scuffed.

Thanks John. Now if we can persuade Portugalia to import the Alegre 1985 Colheita, we'll be cooking with gas.

2 bottles of Niepoort 1952 garrafeira, bottled in 1955 and decanted in 1974.

Interestingly, if I understand the current rules correctly this would not qualify as garrafeira today. I’m not sure what it would be - reserve ruby maybe?

I don't recall the rules for Ruby Reserve (vs Ruby), but it's possible that today this would have to be just a basic Ruby Port. The fact that it was bottled and then decanted at all might prevent it from being able to be sold as anything else.

VP can be bottled after 3 years (technically 30 months), so if that original "bottling" had been into bottles instead of demijohn it could be called a Vintage Port. The "decanting" into bottles is really not terribly different than recorking/rebottling.

I spoke with Andre and requested he look into getting it. He will contact their supplier and get back to me!

Warre Traditional Bottle Aged LBV is a staple offer in the supermarkets in the UK. The vintage for sale switched from 2010 to 2011 late last year.

I've been waiting for one of the supermarkets to decide to offer a discount - and one has.

I've just bought 6 bottles of 2011 LBV for $26.50 per bottle. I haven't tried one yet, but hey, it's 2011!

It's starting to warm up here in Las Vegas.

I haven't heard anything yet, either. Alle is in Europe, though, so maybe they're getting theirs first this time.

We had freezing temps last week in Colorado, but it will be too warm to ship before you know it. 75°F predicted in two weeks. Time to ship!
