2015 Fonseca Guimaraens 0.375 VP
2015 Niepoort LBV
10YO S. Leonardo Tawny Port
How was the Port?
I have one bottle of Fonseca Guimaraens 2015 for my boy (year of birth) and i will open this Port at when he will have 18.
It is at nice early stage at the minute. Still primary but the tannins are fairly relaxed. It is very lush with loads of dark fruit and a floral touch. It was gone very very quickly with a mate. You and your son is in for a treat. It was my last 0.375 as I split 12 with my dad. But I had the foresight to buy a case of 6 in regular size. I'll keep my hands of those for the next 10+ years.

Absolutely fantastic, I will share a note later. I got 2 different lots at a recent auction and planning to compare them. Strangely but these two bottlings seem to be different - one with a selo under the foil and is called Fonseca's Finest 1977 Vintage Port and the other one with a selo over the foil and doesn't have 'Finest' in the name. Anyone knows why's that?

2000 Croft VP.
Had taken some with my Coravin 2 years ago. So decided to finish this post Christmas. Dark maraschino cherries on the nose with some eucalyptus & mint as well. Very refreshing and vibrant still. A little hot on the entry lingering into the mid palate. Nice concentration of fruit that has begone softening and present tannins but seems a little unbalanced currently. 89 points today but will grow into a better state with time.

1985 Ferreira VP. Was darn near clear in the glass! Looked like a 100+ years old. Cork was fine, was not leaking. Seems to be
a thing with Ferreira where some bottles just evolve to clean port. Seen it a on a few vintages where one or two bottles in a case are like this.

Christmas Eve a 2003 Niepoort VP in an emergency pop and pour situation (someone forgt to toss the 1995 Dalva Colheita in the car--I keep a few bottles at my Mother's that's why I had the Niepoort)
It was fine but between the lack of decant and just 19 year of age we just did not do it justice. Incredibly tannic with that robust Niepoort profile--IMHO this needs to age a long time before it simmers down. I will not score--just not appropriate. But a promising Port.
If you celebrate it, hope you had a marvelous Christmas!..and to all Happy New Year!!

For Christmas Day, I opened a 1963 Gould Campbell VP. It was average at best, so a little disappointing. It had a good color still, but not a lot of fruit.
