The first port I ever tried was a Graham's basic ruby from one of those little gift boxes they sell all over Portugal. My mother in law brought one back for us. I remember we liked the ruby much more than the tawny.
We took a trip to Portugal not too long after that. The first bottles we ever bought were the Ramos Pintos Collectors Edition red and white ports, after visiting the lodge during our tour of the country.
The first VP I ever bought was the 1992 Martinez Quinta da Eira Velha, on clearance for $30.
