When Roy first posted this tasting, I thought it was going to be hard for it to compete with our usual VP and Colheita tastings. After all, most people drink LBV when it is young and don't bother to keep old bottles around for years and years. It was pure luck that led me to the 1976 Smith Woodhouse - I was actually looking for some 1983 Ramos Pinto VP when I stumbled across it online. If not for that bit of luck, it would have been hard to find something suitable.
But then I got to thinking. Roy has contacts. Heck, I have contacts because of Roy! So I started emailing to see what I could dig up. Well, long story short... after more emails than I can count and much back-and-forth, we're going to have the oldest registered LBV at this tasting! That's right, one bottle of 1927 Ramos Pinto LBV is being shipped directly from Vila Nova de Gaia.
I can't wait to try it!

Holy cow, nicely done Glenn (and all his/Roy's contacts)!

As I told Andy earlier by email, it was only $4.01 too!
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Glenn's finding a 1927 RP LBV was less likely than him coming up with a 1931 Nacional LBV.

I know someone who can get us one. Well, maybe if the fed's let him out real soon for good behavior

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to withdraw from this tasting. There is just too much going on at work (long days and weekends), so it's going to be too hard for me to fly up for this. Please post notes so that I can live vicariously!

I believe I've almost convinced Eric Levine (of cellartracker fame) to join us for the new last spot.

Would be nice. I've never actually met him yet, though we've emailed a couple times in the past.

Just so I can firm up arrangements, we'll be tasting on the 26th at the usual holiday inn? Just double checking since I realized it hasn't been explicitly stated in the thread yet.

Brad et al,
I will have final arrangements made with 24 hours. Still working out one kink.
Brad, have you heard back from Eric if he will be joining us or not?
Thanks,
Roy
