1952 Moreira Colheita

Color: Dark brown tawny, mildly cloudy.
Nose: Strong VA, sweet lemon or possibly lime. High tone vanilla.
Palate: Tart, strong acidity. Roundly sweet behind the acidity. Dark honey. Shoe leather. A very faint note of bourbon-soaked golden raisins.
Finish: Fairly short, warm and lightly sweet.

Score: 92 points. Moreiras always seem to be a strange breed, but they are very enjoyable in their own way.

Yes, these Moreira's sure do seem to be strange ones at times. IIRC Eric decanted this about 24 hours (or slightly more) prior to us enjoying it. No formal TN, but I did like this better than some previous vintages of Moreira I've had.

I think I'd rank this ahead of the 1965 but behind the 1964.

I have yet to have a Moreira that I loved, including the 1937. They are odd at best, normally requiring crazy long decant times ... 1966 has needed up to 2 weeks, no kidding ... so I still look at their products as "freakazoids" but am glad to read something positive here in this TN. Their is hope.

I have never seen Moreira talked about when I've been in Portugal. I don't even know if they still exist today. But I have not done any research/reading about them either.
