Here's a fun and quick video on removal of old corks including a 1966 VP: http://thedurand.com/press-room Once you click on this, you will need to click on the top right section: see the Durand in action.

The Durand has worked well for me on old corks.

I would buy this *if* I could get a discount... I'm struggling not to pay full price.

Yeah, the only thing holding me back is the price. Yes it's a very nice presentation and I'm sure it is very well made, but the price is pretty over-the-top. It would still seem expensive - though within reach - to me at half of its current list price.

We could do a FTLOP group buy, but even the 5% discount with that wouldn't be enough to entice me. Besides, the tongs are more fun.

I think I got a small percentage off and free shipping back when it was offered to FTLOP members.

It leaves the cork in pretty good condition, although there are some prong marks down the sides.

It's the cost of one bottle of moderately good VP. Way too much if you will only open a few; lost in the book-keeping if you will be opening hundreds of bottles. In between, it's your call.

I would be interested in an FTLOP group buy. If I could get a small percentage off and free shipping I would spring for it.
