From the FTLOP 5th Anniversary Party at the Holiday Inn Issaquah, July 31, 2010.

I was having an off palate night, possibly caused by dinner at Cucina Cucina, so my ratings were significantly lower than everyone else's. In some cases I have reverted back to my initial impressions because, in retrospect, those seem more appropriate given how others were scoring.

1957 Kopke Colheita
bottled 2007

Color: Dark tawny tending toward brown. Yellowing at the rim.
Nose: Leather. Dark, unprocessed sugar (a la Turbinado sugar in the raw).
Palate: Dark and brooding, powerful. Citrus. Old oak. More of that unprocessed sugar.
Finish: Very long with notes of coffee and leather.

Score: 93 points. My early favorite for Port of the night, but after reflecting on both I ultimately chose the '37 Noval by a very slim margin. I got the impression that the '57 Kopke would be better on the second day, though.
