TN: 1998 Bredell's Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: None - South Africa. Cape Vintage Reserve 1998. Made from a blend of 5% Touriga Francesca, 10% Sousao, 35% Touriga Nacional and 50% Tinta Barocca. Very dark in colour with a centre that is still opaque and black on the rim. The nose is much more closed than the 1995 vintage but reveals overripe blueberries, fresh grass and some overripe pear. The pear again comes through in the mouth, sweet and luscious but the flavours are dominated mainly by the blueberries. The structure of this wine comes from a good dose of acidity. The aftertaste is long and lingering that glides around the mouth and caresses the tongue, coating the senses with a good dose of stewed black fruit. This is port to tuck away in the cellar for another 10-20 years. 93 points
