1983 Gould Campbell Vintage Port – Very dark ruby color. Exceptional aromatics right from the time it was opened and poured into the decanter by my daughter. Decanted for ten hours and polished off rather quickly with a few friends, the Gould offered up fine notes of raspberry, anise and a resinous essence that we discussed as either Eucalyptus or Spruce needles, followed by a hint of spirit. Still showing extremely young, this wine promises to improve and I believe it will really take another decade for this to begin to show more mature nuances and should be at its best between 2015-2025. For now, it delivered dense, brash, ripe, dark cherry flavors, with a cool minty freshness and licorice on the smooth lingering finish. Clearly one of the fine VPs of the 1983 vintage! 93 points
