VP recomendations 1977 to 1997
Which VP's in this time frame does everyone feel are the best to accumulate now? I have the 1977 Dow's and Grahams and the 1985 Grahams. All very good. Other opinions? Roy?

I think that in the US, the best deals are between 1970 and 1991. You can actually get most of the 70's port for the same price as the 77.
Here are some suggestions:
1991 :
Taylor Qta Vargellas
Graham
Croft
1988
Graham Qta Malvedos
1987
Taylor Qta Vargellas
Niepoort
Noval Nacional
1986
Taylor Qta Terra Feita
edit : Fonseca Guimaraens is really nice right now!
1985
Graham
Taylor
Fonseca
Offley Boa Vista
1983
Graham
Ramos Pinto
Dow
Gould Campbell
Smith Woodhouse
I've not taste many older vintages, but Dow's 1977 is certainly a fantastic bottle.

Re: VP recomendations 1977 to 1997
I was in your situation a few months ago. I ended up getting (purchased in the UK and imported into the US):
1977 Taylor (a personal favorite)
1977 Gould-Campbell (awesome wine! One for the ages!)
1985 Fonseca
1994 Dow
I also bought:
1992 Taylor
1994 Fonseca
I don't know if I would call these last two values, but I found them at a good price and they have sentimental value to me. OK, OK... compared to Bordeaux and Napa Cabs, these were great values.
I would also recommend:
1991 Croft (I'm still looking for this!)
1994 Quinto do Vesuvio (You can never have too much of this).
1992 Quinta do Infantado
1991 Quinta do Infantado Touriga Nacional
The infantado's are unlikely to increase much in price (just not much demand), so I would pursue the others first.
I agree with you on 1977 Dow and 1985 Grahams. I'm still looking for these at a good price.

Mark,
In the next couple of weeks, the next newsletter will be out. In it, you'll find a list that I think you will find very useful. Although my tastes do vary from Fred's, I think he has put together a well thought out list. I would have to include the 1980 Vintage as well, since the Dow, Graham, Warre and a few others are extremely well made Port and the Dow in particular is one of the best wines made in the '80s, IMHO.
