1980 Dow's in the decanter five hours already and it smells like it is from 2000. Can't wait!

Last weekend I opened a bottle of Cockburn Special Reserve and thoroughly enjoyed it. This evening I opened a bottle of Warre 1982 bottle matured LBV and the difference in class is huge - so big that I think I might need to open another bottle of something for the rest of this weekend!

Warre bottle matured LBV at 30-40 years of age is just superb. Anyone buying the current release (which is 2003 in the UK) should seriously think about how good these will be in another 15 years.

I should have decanted this, as later pours had a lot of sediment; but they are still just as yummy. 91 points, maybe 92.

Tasting at my club, with a pretty fun theme. All served blind in 2 flights, white and brown.

2011 Taylor's LBV.
This is a stronger-tasting LBV, which doesn't carry secondary flavors much. I think this may be more appropriate to accompany chocolate-type or other aggressive-tasting desserts, as opposed to for separate standalone enjoyment.

Here is what I wrote to our members regarding the tasting and the results.

Top 3 - White
1. Lamelas 40+ YO
2. Andresen 40+ YO
3. Lamelas og Andresen 10 YO

Top 3 - Brown

1. Lamelas 10 YO
2. Andresen 40 YO
3. Lamelas 40 YO

The Lamelas 20YO was unfortunately corked. It also quickly became apparent that the members and guests were not fond of the Lamelas 20 YO Dry White. It had an excellent nose, but the taste was a not a crowd favourite to say the least.

The result for the White port in 1 and 2 place was not surprising, however it was that the two 10YO White youngsters shared the 3rd spot and clearly shows that great port does need not cost a fortune, as they cost roughly 14 and 22 USD on sales. It was also astutely observed by most that there was a much clearer distinction between the nuances in the different White port than was the case with the Brown tawnies.

In the Brown tawnies I must admit it was head scratching and pretty crazy for me that the Lamelas 10YO ran away with all the marbles and a head of the 2x 40YO's. Not many saw that coming. Also note that the 10YO Lamelas got 8 first places votes out of 15 in the Brown tawny flight compared to second place finisher 40YO Andresen that merely got 4 first place votes. Quite the victory.

The conclusion by the foreman (Me) for the night.

1. Port in good company just adds enhances the experience
2. White port is here to stay and they each have a very unique set of nuances that make them stand out from one and other.
3. Top quality tawnies can be acquired for small amounts, demonstrated by the 10YO White Andresen & Lamelas as well as the 10YO Lamelas. All purchasable for less than 30 USD on sales.

And not to continue stirring, but the Niepoort sure seems like it will be better at 15-20 years old than some VPs from generally declared years that are 2x or 3x the price .
