I ran an introduction to port tasting this week for 12 people who were new to port. I welcomed them with a white port and tonic (chip dry), then followed by a generic SFE Fine Tawny matched against Cockburn Special Reserve. The next flight was Noval 10yo with Graham 20yo. The third flight was Sandeman 2011 LBV matched with Warre 1994 LBV and the evening was rounded off with a bottle of Vargellas 1967.

The outcome was that around half the group said they would buy some port on their next weekly grocery shop. [cheers.gif]

And you didn't invite us, Alex? [shrug.gif] You are a well-deserved Port Ambassador, sir!

In the meanwhile, my bottle last night was a 1991 Croft VP.

Since it was my wife's birthday last week (turning 40) I opened the following bottles as a small port tasting for our wine- and portliking friends & family:

- Quevedo 40 yo Tawny (2012 bottling);
- Dalva 1977 Colheita (bottled 2014);
- Warre 1977 Vintage Port;

All showed very well, and it was an excellent experience to taste these all in one tasting.

1948 Suarez VP. It was not as good as some other 1948s I've had, but was much better than the last one of these I opened.

Thanks Roy.

This is the actually line up, which I couldn't post earlier as I added the F85 fully blind to the tasting (Some club members might be lurking in here). It was a splendid evening and these 80's bottles are really delicious currently. I have added half of the taste notes to the DB so far and will do the remaining during the weekend.

Not opened by me, but one of the folks attending our midweek get-together brought a bottle of Pocas Junior 1974 vintage port. It was stunningly good.
