Last night, our local Port tasting club enjoyed:

20 Year Old Tawny Ports:
* Andresen
* Cockburn's
* Churchill's
* Ramos Pinto
* Poças
* Vallado

Afterwards we enjoyed a 30 year old by S. Leonardo and capped off the night with 1933 Justino's Malmsey Madeira.

1997 Smith Woodhouse VP, in a 375ml this was fairly developed. Purchased at auction, I don't think these bottles were perfectly stored, but they will be fine daily drinkers.

Second bottle has a lot more primary fruit. It shows a little more development than I recall this wine having when tasted several years ago, but is that because it has been a while, or because of storage?

1987 Souza VP last night. Along with a 1973 Pedrocelli Cab (Sonoma, CA), 2001 Insignia Cab, some older Cuban Rum, a couple whites and some killer Flannery Beef. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday evening with friends.

I arranged for a small "Bring a bottle" night, with 8 participants. There was a minimum price of 30 USD for the port to keep a decent level and people brought them blindly.

We did server them in White -> Tawny -> Ruby order.

10YO White S. Leonardo
1985 Kopke Colheita
20YO Offley Tawny
10YO Fonseca Tawny bottled in 1986
1996 Vista Alegre VP
2001 Noval Silval VP (Corked)
2005 Dow's Quinta do Bomfim VP
2011 Rozes VP
2011 Quinta do Portal VP

Good choice. I've got a 1991 Guimaraens opened right now for tonight. Only a couple days left for the virtual tasting.

Uh, well, see my other "Dumb" post. It ended up being a 2007 Fonseca VP. Oops.

For my 5000th post, I thought about what port I should open to mark this milestone. One thought was to open something classic like '63 Fonseca, or '66 Croft, '70 Dow..., but for me those vintages are a one night deal and we haven't be doing real port nights very often. Another thought was to open up something I have heard little discussion on. Plus, the bottles I open tend to stay around for several days, so I need to take that into consideration...

My choice ended up being 1994 Delaforce VP. Very smooth and well done. Pop and pour was intense floral and now after a few days is just a solid port that is well made. Everything is in place, but it is not a block buster. Anyone else try this port recently?

I hope this is my 5000th....

Yey Moses :salute:

I tried a 1992 Delaforce recently and quite enjoyed it. Must say that the house is really growing on me, need to get my hands on some more from different years.
