1987 Kopke Colheita in Barcelona, to be followed by a 1987 Krohn Colheita on board our cruise to Rome. It's our 30th Anniversary trip. :-)

1987 Wiese & Krohn Colheita
2011 Niepoort LBV
2011 Quinta do Portal VP
1980 Gould Campbell VP

As part of a beginner tasting. The participants top 3 in order. I preferred the Wiese & Krohn, crisp acidity.

1995 Souza. A solid port every time--not the most nuanced but quite
enjoyable.

A bottle of Quinta da Gricha 2012 from Churchill. I didn't get the chance to try this earlier in its life so it was good to have the opportunity last week.

1980 Warres VP. Not as young and powerful as a bottle I had at the Graham's lodge two years ago, but still very nice.
I'm probably going to open a 1994 Warres tonight to serve alongside the remains of the 1980. Since the 1980 has been open two days, it won't be fair, but perhaps still fun and enjoyable.

I've been out of town on vacation the past almost 2 weeks, finally home. I was up in Napa visiting an old friend and his girlfriend (now fiance) to celebrate their engagement and their new house. I took a slew of wines, including a 2004 Niepoort Charme and 2007 Niepoort Batuta to compare side by side (the Charme won hands down, as good as the Batuta was). I also took a 1970 Fonseca VP. The Fonseca showed a little bit more heat than normal but otherwise was still excellent and the bottle didn't last long.

I then headed up to Alaska and took a Quinta do Noval 40 Year Tawny for some evening sipping over a few days. Bottled in 2007, yet it still showed very well and if I had to be very critical (we are Port Nerds so it just comes with the territory), was just at the point where I probably wouldn't want to hold that bottling of it much longer. BTW, Alaska was SO beautiful. If you've never been you need to go at least once in your lifetime. Saw all sorts of wildlife, Eagles by the tons, Humpback Whales, Dall’s porpoises (which are amazingly fast swimmers and look like small Killer Whales), Otters, and all kinds of other things.

I just bought 4 bottles of this, is it worth investing in more bottles do you think?

Well I like it and would happily buy more (I have 3 left). The owner, John Graham, said it could be cellared for at least 10 years. So why not but best to try it yourself.
