I had it once, but can't seem to find my TN. I remember I liked it very much; a young solid VP. If the price is £40 per bottle, however, I would pass.

The quinta was never owned by Niepoort but, until 2004 the wines were made , bottled and shipped by them. Since 2004 the quinta works under its own label. The winemaker remained the same: Jorge Borges (who also makes Pintas). Only now he doesn't work for Niepoort anymore.

I have seen the 1994 here at Aabalat for US $25/bottle. When I called they had already sold out, but I got a half case of the 1992 from them. I also recently got a half case of the 2000. I have not tasted the 2000 yet but the 1992 was very good. Decanter picks both the 1992 and the 2000 in their vintage lists as top wines, but not the 94, which is possibly responsible in part for the price difference.

This may be similar to Croft's Quinta do Roeda, where the 95 sells for ~$25, and the 97 for ~$50 (again the 1997 shows up on the Decanter guides but not the 1995). I bought some of the 1995 and found it to be quite good, and hard to beat at that price relative to a LBV.

You cannot really go wrong at the price you quote!

It is rare for VP to sell for less than £10/bottle at auction, although I have seen odd cases from less well known shippers/quintas sell for as little as £100/12.

I'd be surprised if a vendor would accept such a low price, unless it was a 'distress' sale.

Where is it being sold?

(you can PM me if you like - I won't bid against you!)

I recently picked up a couple of bottles of their '98 VP ($28.00) and I found it to be very enjoyable. Although not outstanding it was a nice "everyday" VP. I must add that the amount of sediment in these bottles was amazing I'd say there was at least 4X the sediment that I've ever seen a bottle of VP.
