For The Love Of Port

Checking in a few times per day just to monitor traffic here on the site. From the Blog and Portraits and TNDB and videos on the homepage, to the activity and new members on the Forum, it is nice to see things back on track after a pretty weak summer and modest autumn. It has been some time since I've seen 12-25 members posting/lurking on the Forum at a given moment.

Time to get back in the swing of things .

You know we are all here somewhere, sometime. I generally hit the site 4 - 6 times a day. I may not be posting much, but I DO read most posts.

I know that your stocks of Nimrod have finally vanished and with that, your will to swill other Ports and post here.

In all seriousness, for continuing to read here and post the occasional interesting reply. It is very much appreciated having some of the people who helped to build this Forum to what it is today, still hanging in there with us! I hope you and Eva have a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. This is our first time missing out on going to MI at Christmas in since Dorene and I met and it just won't feel the same. Catch you next year at our favorite local restaurant.

I actually have 5 bottles of Nimrod left; I will open one every year or so, even though they seem to be getting a bit 'flat'. As another thread points out, bottle-aging for tawnys is not usually a good thing, especially t-cap bottles. Having settled on Ferreira 20 as my regular tipple makes me a rather dull port taster, but FTLOP has social value to me as well.

We (The Gang of Port) will miss seeing you this year, but we certainly will look forward to a visit around the holidays next year (or any time in between).

Unfortunately, it is nearly twice the price of Nimrod; that was a real bargain while it was still being produced.

I actually buy enough of the Ferreira 20 that my supplier has clout with the distributor and can sometimes bargain the price down; and when he can't, I don't buy - which may be why he has the clout. It does mean that I can never let my supply go below about 1 to 1.5 cases, in case the distributor needs to be reminded for a while. (Hmmm; need a Mod here: two of the smileys have the same tag {evil} making it hard to use the little devil.)

Peter , just out of curiousity , what does a bottle of Ferreira 20 yrs go for , in your neck of the woods .
We don't get any in Québec .
Our best is Ramos Pinto 20 yrs : 72.00 $ .
