Rare Wine Co. New York Malmsey

Post by Jim R. »

I have posted on the port side but here is my first madeira tasting note. I am a raw beginner in madeiras.
opened 12/15/11-- orange brown color, metallic, toffee, citrus aromas; smooth, sweet, toffee, caramel, tart cherry, lemon flavors; excellent balance and integrated alcohol, slightly coarse with strong finishing acidity
24 hours after decanting (AD)-orange brown color; clean, deep toffee, burnt orange, caramel, tart cherry nose; orange, coffee, toffee, caramel flavors, acidity there but not obtrusive; huge glycerine smoothness, lovely
96 hours AD-toffee color with slight orange cast; huge nose of marzipan, toffee, burnt caramel, citrus, sweet caramel candy nose; soft palate entry with sweet caramel and orange flavors, very well integrated with an orange-citrus finish, acidity just right to refresh the palate, very fine now
90 points.
