I must admit there is some perverse displeasure in my posting of these articles, waiting to see who deciphers the faults and flawed fact checking that is part of their DNA. It absolutely amazes me, that nearly every article I read on Port and Douro ... has some glaring error such as the one that Bob pointed out. Even from very sophisticated writers. Now I have to wonder if my own articles have similar flaws? Hopefully, I am more careful in using sweeping generalizations, (except when it comes to TCA and the "incidence" of TCA in Dow 1977 VP, of course ) and getting the basics correct.

In reality, I would be MUCH happier to find very well written articles on Port, because it really stinks to find all of these mistakes which give the novice Port enthusiast, the wrong impression(s) to then espouse to their friends. We, the "thought police of the Port world" will find all such errors and make sure to point them out here.

This phenomenon is certainly not restricted to articles about port and the Douro!

This is certainly the case. As my wife and I have had first hand knowledge of a number of events reported in the news, we've come to realize how much misinformation is out there.

I sometimes have to write press releases at work for major incidents. Without fail, 100% of the time, the press screws up the details in some way. Doesn't matter how detailed the info they get, they'll find a way to screw it up.

I wish I could. Putting out a newsletter without having an editor is no fun, especially for typos and grammar in tasting notes. Having another pair of eyes before the newsletter goes out would be priceless.

Oddly enough, the guys who write these articles for online newspapers and magazines DO have editors.
