2006 Crasto Old Vines. Pretty good, but not blown away. Would like to revisit in a few years. Could use more balance between fruit and oak, but maybe I was off that night?

It's been hot and humid here so yesterday I opened another bottle of 2009 Niepoort Tiara. Love this white and perfect when chilled on a hot summer afternoon.

2007 Quinta do Vesuvio Douro DOC and a 1970 Warre's VP

SEE MORE HERE

EDIT: Well sometimes things just get out of hand  A couple of Niepoort wines also got opened....including a 2010 Redoma Reserva Douro (white) wine. We also had a Niepoort Loureira (sp?) and a NV Niepoort Dry White Port as well. A stellar evening for sure [dance2.gif]

We had many a fine wine while visiting Quinta do Crasto this week, but the one that was most suprising was a regular Douro Tinto from 1999. It was so purely bright red that nobody could guess the age by just looking at it. On the nose and palate it did give hints as to its age, but I was the only one close in guessing what it was ... thinking 2001. It was really beautiful at this stage and for an entry level red, at 13 years of age ... we were all stunned by how well it showed. :scholar:

Had a 2004 Altano last night. The fruit is tasting sweeter than I remember it and it's still holding up fine.

I had the chance to sample the `07 Quinta do Cotto, Duoro. Even after day 2 still tad on the young side but think in a few years will be very good.
The CARM Castello d`Alba white and red were a big hit at a recent Portugal Wine festival here in town. Both excellent wines for those starting to show an interest in wines from this region.

Daniel,

How was the 1991 Barca Velha showing? I finished my last bottle a couple of years ago, from 2 cases I had purchased. Seemed by the time (2010) that I had killed off the last bottle, the 1991's seemed a little long in the tooth. What was your impression?

Roy,

My main impression was "tired". I got the feeling that the best period has passed for this vintage. Still complex and very enjoyable, but the nose is showing tertiary aromas. No notes as we were celebrating a family occasion. They were from my Father's stash and there are a few more so will be able to check again!

I agree with both of you. Last time I had the 1991 it was showing past its best.
