Has anybody tried the 2008 Douro red by Kopke yet?

Tomorrow is going to be a crazy day. A dozen DOC Douro wines before noon. After a short lunch break we do Ports. Then in the evening, somewhere between a dozen and fifteen white/red DOC wines. That does not include the Port at both events. Fortunately, my stamina is still in play from the recent tour of Portugal.

2006 Quinta do Frances
Regional Algarve Odelouca

Had this red with dinner in 2009 on one of our honeymoon stops at a restaurant within a small hotel called Vila Joya. I liked it so much that when I got home, the hotel was kind enough to get a case sent to me.

Just opened another bottle and am decanting.

These bottles will probably taste better to me than for other folks (given the nostalgia factor), but sometimes the best bottles are the ones that come with a story, no?

Picked up a few goodies from Sarmento’s Imports & Exports out of New Bedford, MA; a Cape Cod B&M carries their wines pretty much exclusively for Portuguese red’s.

Montes Pintados – Douro 2009 : Elys spotted on shelf. Interesting label with a picture of their Quinta. Wish it was a better quality picture; such a good idea for Douro wines to show off the terrain on the label.

Udaca – Touriga Nacional 2008 : Looking forward this one. I like Udaca’s wines and they are well priced.

Companhia das Quintas – Farizoa 2008 (Alentejano) : CdQ has a good line up, not sure if I have had this before.

Pedra d’Orca Reserva 2004 : One of my favorite daily drinkers from Dao, but first for this vintage.

More 2005 Quinta de la Rosa Reserve, this time @ $42 but this wine is so good, that I don't care about what price I have to pay to get it now.

My best find today was the last two bottles in a local shop that had: 2000 Quinta da Manuela red. Very excited to try this one! Priced well @ $28.99

One QPR wine too: 2009 Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas @ $12.99

It was a good day for local wine and Port hunting.

I opened the 2005 Quinta de la Rosa Reserva and it is just getting better and better. Also opened was the 2010 Niepoort Tiara and 2009 Vertente and 2007 Kopke White ... which is showing beautifully, regardless of what Dirk said when he had it back in May. 8--)

Over the last 3 days, I did open some 2010 Niepoort Whites I just received. Tiara, Docil, Redoma, Redoma Reserva. Redoma does look to be the most enjoyable right now, I'll be able to taste the reserva over a few days and see how it evolves, it is quite thight and intense right now.

The 2006 Kopke Reserva is in a very nice place at the moment. I still prefer the 2007. but unfortunately, that Reserva never made it into the USA commercially.

It was Portuguese wine night at a wine friends place. While they all were good the Charme stole the show for most who tried it. Though in fairness the Crasto seemed to be in a really tight phase and wasn't it's normally expressive self, similar to another bottle I opened a bit ago. As such I won't be opening them for a while until it gets through whatever phase it's in right now.
