Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off
So is there a NY/NJ version of this offline happening? I'd love to join if there's room.

I will probably open 12-24 hours before. While you can pop and pour, I prefer a little more air-time.Phyllis Wrote:
Ok, so here is a question on the Great "Reserve Ruby Taste Off."
Is every one going to decant or "pop-n-pour?" If decanting, how long?

Hmmmmm ... Maybe I get two halves of Six Grapes. Decant one 24 hours, pop-n-pour the other.
Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off
Glenn and I are going to be doing a tasting at his home on _______________.
We've agreed to the following 5 and are considering these other two as well and possibly one more:
Here is the top seven list that I want to ensure we will taste, with the top 5 non-negotiable, so your thoughts:
a. Graham's Six Grapes
b. Noval Black
c. Cockburn's Special Reserve
d. Fonseca Bin 27
e. Warre's Warrior
f. Sandeman Founder's Reserve
g. Taylor's First Estate
Who would like to join us?
As for a broader sense ... do we have consensus that we'll all put our impressions and results in the Virtual Tasting Room, segregating threads by location of the tastings?

Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off
If we can find one, I'd really like to include a Broadbent Auction Reserve as that has been my favorite ruby reserve in the past. Locating one might be an issue... I haven't seen one in a store for quite a while.

Works for me, including the Virtual Tasting Room idea. I'll start getting things together for something down here in So. Cal. this week.Roy Hersh wrote:Glenn and I are going to be doing a tasting at his home on March 24th.

Thank Andy,
BTW, for all: when I mentioned, non-negotiable, I should say that was from an email I sent to Glenn. If others don't have those specific Ports in their tastings, so be it. That was not the intent of what I meant for the wider community here; just for what will be poured here in Sammamish.

We have a venue, date and time for the event in the Sacramento area:
- Maranello’s Restaurant
March 31st
5:00pm
- Enough time to have dinner afterwards
The food would be outstanding
Proper space for a small, medium or large group ... and most important
Tables big enough for 6 glasses in front of each person

Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off
So how much interest is there in this for Seattle? Should I start a separate organization thread to get a count and do some planning?

Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off
Due to a scheduling conflict I have to move the Seattle version of this to Friday the 23rd. It'll still be at my house in Sammamish... I'll send out an email with more details soon.

Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off
I picked up 4 bottles for this tasting today - Graham's Six Grapes, Noval Black, Fonseca bin 27, and Warre's Warrior. Roy told me earlier that he acquired a Broadbent Auction Reserve, so we're almost set!

Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off
Since you're also on the West coast, would you be interested in setting up an internet video chat? We'll be doing the Roy's Top 12 Vintage Ports tasting that same night. At the very least we could do a round of introductions!Carl D wrote:We're all set for next weekend - the 31st. It'd be a hoot! But unfortunately, I don't think we'll have any Internet access in the restaurant where we're holding our event.Glenn E. wrote:Since you're also on the West coast, would you be interested in setting up an internet video chat? Re: The Reserve Ruby Taste Off
Well good on you and Phyllis for organizing this event and finding people in your area who want to participate and enjoy Port. Great going Carl!
