TN: 2009 Quinta do Crasto Old Vine Reserva Douro

Decanted about 3 hours, this fine Douro wine didn't last long once drinking it commenced. The nose bounced between noticable oak at times and times when there seemed to be almost no oak. Yet there was always dark fruit, wet stones, and tar. This immediately overtakes the mouth with expressive marrionberries, tar, some cocoa showing midway through, strong minerality, and youthul tannins. Not to be left out is the acidity, acting like a conductor to keep everything in check. This has the potential to best the incredible 2004 vintage, as hard as that may seem. I look forward to watching this as it matures as I have no doubt this will improve even more in bottle. A fantastic example of a Douro wine that should be on every wine drinkers radar.
