1989 Rocha Colheita: 90 points. color is like a dark rose, with the oak just starting to turn the color lighter, and is crystal clear. It has a very strong nose, smelling of raisins, dried apricots, caramel. The taste is a rush of sweetness, with a light dry but lengthy finish. No tannins. Raisins, plums, and dried cherries dominate the taste. 89 points.
1984 Kopke Colheita: 92 points. color is a dark auburn, and uniform throughout the glass. It is crystal clear. It smells like honey, raisins, wood, and a medium hint of spices. It is very sweet, with a strong taste of alcohol. The taste is of raisins and honey
1982 Rocha Colheita: 94 Points. Same color as the 1980, a light burgundy, with a slight fading to green at the side. Unlike the 1980, this one is crystal clear. The nose is not very strong, smelling of walnuts, apricots, and dried cherries. WOW! What a punch of flavor! Sweet and thick, I could almost chew this one. Fine honey, cherries, and orange, with no tannins. Amazing!
1980 Rocha Colheita: 86 points. color is light burgundy, leading to brown on the edge. It is slightly hazy, with some sediment floating around. The nose is very pleasing, not too strong and slightly sweet, very balanced with hints of raisins and butter. The taste is very mellow, and balanced but slightly weak (for my tastes). There is little alcohol strength to it. It is slightly tart, with medium tannins.
Note: left one glass worth in the bottle for 4 days before revisiting it. The flavor has really come back. This is what I'd expect from a good Colheita. Not too strong, but strong enough to have be a pleasant drink.
1978 Rocha Colheita: 96 points. The color is a medium red mahogany, slightly hazy with some sediment in it. The nose is of medium strength, and smells of cherries and toffee. The alcohol level is perfect, just the right amount of heat on the palate. The beginning is fairly sweet (maybe a bit too much), and end has a slight acidic edge, and a pleasant amount of tannins which holds for a several seconds. The taste is fairly complex. Unfortunately, my palate is not very developed and it was hard for me to pull out the different flavors. But nonetheless, this is truly an amazing Colheita.
