After Taylor’s, we made our way over to Graham’s. Anyone that’s been tasting around Porto knows that Graham’s is a *wee bit* out of the way, compared to the other lodges. It was a good 15 to 20 minute walk from Taylor’s to Graham’s, almost entirely up a moderately steep hill, in temperatures warmer than this English-dwelling guy has seen in quite some time. At one point, Ashley had me convinced that we might have taken the wrong street up the hill, in which case we had just made approximately a 45 minute mistake. I, too, was wondering why we hadn’t yet reached our destination, so her worries resonated quite clearly with me. I figured we should continue up the road we were on just a little bit further, as it would be a shame to come all this way, and barely miss making it there before turning back. So, we trucked-on. Not more than 40 yards later, we came upon Graham’s on our right. We made it --- barely!

Overall, both Ashley and I thought our visit at Graham’s was the highlight of our afternoon in Porto; the wines were excellent, and the customer service was easily the best we encountered in Porto. They comped us one of their basic tastings -- Six Grapes; The Tawny; and 2007 LBV – which is the only reason we tasted those particular wines, gave us a couple free pours of the ’08 Altano Reserva red, and gave us a 20% discount on the 6 bottles we purchased. To be clear, this was all done gratuitously on Graham’s part --- they did not need to extend these courtesies to us, but, in doing so, they certainly made a very positive impression on us. Although Raul was not around on the day we visited, a young woman named Yulie took very good care of us and was a pleasure to spend time with. Perhaps my only regret from this visit is spending $120 on a bottle of the ’94 Vesuvio VP (after 20% discount), which I’ve come to find is a pretty bad price --- but no biggie, really – it’s a fantastic wine, and our bottle will have impeccable provenance, I suppose.
Ashley and I probably should have called it a day after Graham’s, as the qualitative bar was now set so high that any additional stops likely would have been disappointing in comparison. As it was, however, we had an extra hour by the time we got to the bottom of the hill, and couldn’t resist the urge to stop at one more place; like I said, we shouldn’t have.
