Looking forward to Madeira trip next week

It has been two years since I was on the island the last time. I have a feeling this tour will surpass that one and we have a few people who post here who will be going along for the ride. The Euro has been cooparating to which is nice, the weather there is warming up and beautiful and all seems right with the world.
I think we may have the opportunity to try some really old bottles this year too and some that people have never had before. One producer is opening some that NOBODY has ever tried as of yet. Should be a funtastic time!

I think you guys may have already left for your trip...

Looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back!
I'm jealous and envious, but hope you guys are having a blast.
Maybe next time, I'll be able to join in the fun!
Cheers,
Mark

We landed last night, had the morning off and went to lunch, a long long lunch. Many interesting wines and Madeira, joined by two of the heads of the IVBAM and the President too. A great way to start the tour of the island. Back for an hour and a half break. Then off to Henriques & Henriques.

Please find out more about the takeover by Justino's and about the status/future of the 1927 bastardo.

We were at H&H this evening and had a wild tasting of 15 bottles ranging back into the 19th century. Our host, one of the 3 owners ... confirmed that my earlier post on the takeover by Justino's ... actually Le Martiniquaise the parent of Justino's/Cruz/C. da Silva/Dalva ... did purchase 60% of H&H. The other two owners each have 20% ownership in the company.

Lunch with the director of the IVBAM was a great experience. Excellent food and the stuff we learned was excellent as well. She seems very, very enthusiastic. The Madeira table wines seem to have improved greatly as well.
