One cool thing about his article ... it was the very FIRST time that any article on Madeira has EVER appeared in Parker's, The Wine Advocate.

Just received a reply from Neal, and yes, unfortunately he does not own the copyright to the article, as it is property of The Wine Advocate, which is understandably in the business to make money by subscriptions.

So while it would not be legal to reprint or send the article to anyone, I can paraphrase. The article discusses the rarity and near extiction of Terrantez. Neal comments on how he feels the best expression of Madeira is found in Terrantez and how he hopes his article alerts readers and growers to the importance of the grape. Among the various flights, his favorite were the 1846s, just beating out (in general) the 1862s. He felt priviledged to taste the flight of 1795s, but felt they did not show their best. As expected the 1802 received the top score, but it was not alone, the 1846 Leacock was tied with that wine for top honors.

There were no perfect 100 point wines from the tasting but he did give a 1862 Terrantez that he tasted a few days later a perfect score. The wine was a bit of a mystery, the label reads “Bought for JWEB at birth by PGB and bottled by CJZ in 1977.” In his email, Neal mentioned that the mystery was subsequently solved by Mannie Berk. I assume the answer will be revealed in a future article. Neal mentioned that this recent article was about the past, but a future article will deal with current releases.

This is great news! IMHO, there has been far too little coverage of fortified wines.
