TN: Rare Wine Company Historic Series Boston Bual Madeira

Unfortunately, working backwards, folks.

After having the D'Oliveiras '89 Malvasia and '68 Boal, I tried the Rare Wine Co. Boal. Unfortunately, while good, this doesn't seem as satisfying as the former wines. Yet, this has good concentration and acidity.

A few nights later, this has opened up wonderfully with air (It was even accidently without a cork for 12 hours!). Chewy maple, butterscotch, and zingy citrus really balance well, just missing more length to bring it up a few notches. A solid '90' wine, though.

Imo, this is the best of the Historic Series, except for those fortunate enough to still possess some of the original bottling of New Orleans (Terrantez and TNM). Barry, it is really hard to taste this AFTER the two aforementioned Madeiras. In the future, I strongly suggest you taste this on its own, in a group of peer wines OR prior to Vintage Madeira bottlings. The good news ... there's likely to be NO lead in this wine.
