For the houses that don't do a 40 but do have a 30, what 30's would you include?
40's that I have had/seen are:
- Taylor
Noval
Grahams
Yummy .. a 40 yr Tawny taste off is on it's way for next year.

My opinion is that that's a really long list of relatively expensive bottles.Phyllis D wrote:What is your opinion of the slightly updated list below?

S. Leonardo
Romaniera
Brunheda
Kopke
Sandeman
For 30's that don't make a 40, the ones that sticks out in my mind are:
Niepoort
Ramos Pinto
These are in the same league as the 40's above - in fact the Niepoort is technically over 40 years old. Roy would know if the Ramos Pinto is as well
Yes, some of these are difficult or impossible to obtain... but I have them *and* live in Northern California!
A great place to start looking for a list like this is in our TNDB: http://www.fortheloveofport.com/tndb/se ... sort=score
Did a very quick search and was not able to find a mention of a Ferreira 40 year Tawny. Do they make a 40? If No, then the 30 can be in the running, otherwise it would have to be their 40.Al B. wrote:Don't forget the Ferreira 30 year old - an excellent port!
Correct just a 10 and 20 year old Tawny.David Spriggs wrote:I don't believe that Ferreira makes a 30 or 40 year old Port, but I love to be proven wrong!
I always chuckle to myself when I hear this name. No exactly the best name for a product, just saying.Eric Ifune wrote:Quinta de Revolta
Yeah I always laugh too, but I've also had a taste of their 40-yr old and I agree with Eric. It's pretty fabulous.Andy Velebil wrote:I always chuckle to myself when I hear this name. No exactly the best name for a product, just saying.Eric Ifune wrote:Quinta de Revolta
Yes - i'd agree this was fantastic!! In my mind, certainly the best 40 i have had. Looking back, i should have bought a bottle at vinologia, but they were priced at Eur160-180 i think and i had visited the DALVA shop first...Eric Ifune wrote:In Oporto, I had a Quinta de Revolta over 40 year old. It was said to be closer to 60 and one of the best Tawnies of indicated age that I've ever had. A limited production and not imported however.
It sounds much cooler, i am sure, if you are Portuguese!Andy Velebil wrote:I always chuckle to myself when I hear this name. No exactly the best name for a product, just saying.Eric Ifune wrote:Quinta de Revolta
Same. In the USA they can't have the "Over" part on the label. For what is probably some unknown bureaucratic rules/reasons that have probably been in place for decades yet no one wants to change them.Rob C. wrote: Just for clarification though, are 40yr tawnies and "over 40yr" tawnies the same category or two completely separate categories?
Oops! My bad.Andy Velebil wrote:Correct just a 10 and 20 year old Tawny.David Spriggs wrote:I don't believe that Ferreira makes a 30 or 40 year old Port, but I love to be proven wrong!
But I believe in the EU, they can have the "over" on the label. Would the blends be the same? I've never seen a "40 year old" and an "over 40 year old" together. Is it just too much a labeling hassel?Same. In the USA they can't have the "Over" part on the label.
