For The Love Of Port

The first port I had on my short holiday.Quite poor but I expected as much unknit and quite tannic the age was there but that was about it.
Offley 1962 This was a strange one soo sickly sweet the sweetest I've ever had overpowering everything not at all unpleasent but not to my taste a bit hot on the finish but nothing serious,this has that much sugar I think it could last two hundred years But seriously if you like them sweet you will still get a lot of enjoyment from this one.Thick and fleshy with the ripeness of the sweetest fruit although it has lost colour it has not faded.
Kopke 1977 colheita bottled on closer inspection in 88 the 350th anniversary.
This was my favourite of the three amber in colour with very light sediment for nearly twenty years in the bottle.Nutty with overtones of a fine cigar a little short on the finish but otherwise a good port.

I've not tried the Q. Cavadinha '86, but based on this and previous reports, a contender for a 0-0 score on my rating system.

The Offley is a rarity; - along with Noval Nacional, the only declared wines from '62.

I have a soft spot for Offley - would like a few bottles of this..

Tom I bought the Offley from a broker friend of mine I paid about £35 which is about the going rate for that bottle I can ask him if he has any more if you want.He deals in wine mostly but if their is any port he gives me first refusal they are normaly from people who have died recently and their next of kin want to dispose of the cellar.I bought four bottles of Grahams 42 £85 each inc.which I thought was a bargain.They have been all well stored.
