All I would add is that 101 restaurants for the entire world is just silly. Can't be done usefully.

Those may be very cool places, but they are just what some small panel chose on one single day. Tomorrow they might choose some other cool places. Another equally qualified panel might choose an entirely different list.

I repeat: can't be done.

Anywho, I thought that Melisse would be somewhere on this list. In a recent survey Melisse was listed as one of the top 10 restaurants in the world (and #2 in America). But I didn't see it anywhere on this list (I guess those Michelin stars didn't count for much!) All of this just goes back to Peter's point that a coherent list such as this just can't be done...

Let's face facts; no matter who put together a list of restaurants or movies, or cars or Ports for that matter, it is a very subjective process. Therefore, it is clearly just an opinion by the author(s) or panel that make the selection. Same with award or medals earned or numerical ratings for wines. That said, some of these types of adventures have far more thought put into them. I thought this one was rather well done.

Yes. The list might be named "I think you should check these out" as well as anything else. Such a list by serious chefs is extremely interesting and potentially useful (if I traveled all that much). I was just quibbling about the name.

I'm with Peter - It's a stupid name for the article but it isn't without interest. For me, it was interesting to see what the American chefs nominated in Melbourne and Sydney, as I know a bit about the places mentioned. I have no doubt that if they asked different chefs, they would get a completely different set of answers.

Haven't been to one on the list... Oh well.
