I haven't had that one, but I really liked the 1994 Blandy's Malmsey, although it comes in a 500ml bottle. A racier style of Malmsey.

Opened up the Broadbent 10 year with a long decant yesterday. Compared to the Colheita '96, I dig the 10 year's higher, zingier acid profile.

Yep, more acidity and greater depth of flavor and a more prolonged finish.

I opened a bottle of the '94 Blandy's a few days ago. You're right, this is quite good; rich. It is richer than the Broadent 10 year; more savory and deep, but on the other hand, the Blandy's doesn't have as much acidic 'zing' as the Broadbent. Perhaps, I should blend them...

I've done this with Port, both on my own and during Harvest Trips, with left overs. Simply to condense it all into one bottle for easy transport mainly. It almost always comes out very good. I guess when you start out with parts you end up with as good or better parts.

On Night 2, my simplistic 50/50 'blend' of '94 Blandy's and Broadbent 10 year is REALLY rocking!

Hopefully, I won't get sued...

I think the RWC Historic Series wines offer exceptional quality under $50. The Savannah Verdelho Special Reserve is a highlight for me- it stands up well to madeiras that are three times the price.

I saw a bottle of Broadbent 10 Malmsey the other day and remembered this thread, so purchased one. In ideal conditions, is this a 0-12hr decant, 12-24 hr decant, or longer?

Well, I stand corrected. The best under $50 that I can find IS the Broadbent 10 year Malvasia. It's tightrope acidity is what does it!!

Don't really want to admit it, but after the "Great Terrantez Tasting" in New York, there were a few drops of some of the ancient wines left over. I poured them together and took them back to my hotel room. Had them the next morning. Not too bad!

Now having tried a few bottles, i must admit i think the Blandy's 15 Malvasia has just a tad more concentration and flavour than the Broadbent 10.

But i say this as someone with very little Madeira experience.
