Broadbent 10 yo Malmsey. Actually my first Madieira and it was quite enjoyable. My wife asked for God's intervention since my love of port is almost more than she can handle. [shok.gif]

2x 1920 Malmsey Cossart; was lucky to secure this at $470 per bottle (although I wouldn't had paid such a price 3 years ago, but things have changed).

I begin to wonder how many 1920 Cossart M has been produced - does anyone know??

1920 Blandy's Bual Magnum. From HDH - they have one left at $1200 if anyone is interested. Lowest USA per bottle price on WS Pro is $750 so it's a relatively good value in the current market.

Tough auction weekend for me - went 1 for 3 at K&L (got a 1954 Blandy Bual) and got beat on this 4 bottle case/lot of 1954 Blandy Malmsey which was a bummer - I really wanted it, should be yummy and the wood just made it extra cool. Not at a regular wine auctioneer and I thought I could 'steal' it..oops.

In 2012 I bought a similar case of Blandy's 1969 terrantez. I still have the case and 5 bottles. I remember that the bottles were very dusty.

Given the age of the box, makes me wonder how long the wine was in cask, though...

The case is branded PPW, which stands for Premium Port Wines, which is owned by the Symingtons. I don't know exactly how long that they have have been the importer, but I thought it was something like 15 years. Does anyone know when PPW started being the importer for Blandy's?

A busy buying week for me....last night I 'won' a few bottles at auction:
Barbeito Malvasia Reserva Velha 1958
d'Oliveiras Terrantez Reserva 1988 (2 bottles)
(plus a substantial amount of Ridge Monte Bello 1999-2005) [cheers.gif]

I also bought a few bottles from Rare this week as I already had them sending a number of seasonally held orders:
A vertical of d'Oliveiras Terrantez 1971 / 1977 and 1988 (I wasn't sure I'd win the auction) also some '68 D'Olly Bual and an RWC Historic Series Stratford shipping with that (older purchases)

Yah, I'm sort of obsessed right now and my drinking partners have embraced the Madeira thing enthusiastically so I also decided to go deeper into some well rated NV product - I need some good QPR to 'protect' my vintage bottles a bit at the rate we're going.
NV Rare Wine Company Historic Series Baltimore Rainwater Madeira
NV Rare Wine Company Historic Series Savannah Verdelho
NV Henriques Verdelho Madeira 15 Year Old
NV Henriques Verdelho Madeira 20 Year Old
NV Henriques Terrantez Madeira 20 Year Old
NV Rare Wine Company Historic Series Madison Malmsey Madeira

I wish you guys would post in here more - this is starting to become embarrassing.

Cross posting this from the (quiet) marketplace auction discussion: http://www.fortheloveofport.com/ftlopfo ... 15#p122115

I won 3 lots by myself and another 3 with another forum member (I'll let him out himself if he wants). I have to say that having a partner is great - we can split lots that might be larger than desired solo and/or we don't compete, we also can compare notes on what we feel market value is, what is desirable/rare, what we think we want to pay, etc, this is particularly helpful for a noob like me - especially given my partners decades of knowledge/experience.
[friends.gif]

This was easily, by far, my biggest auction by dollar amount. My wife isn't exactly pleased but I'm thrilled as everything we won was considerably below current retail (avg 48% off of US retail after premium!) and I now own my first 19th c. bottle. [dance2.gif]

The loot:
    d'Oliveiras, Boal Reserva 1958 (2)
  • Henriques & Henriques, Boal 1957 (6) (SPLIT)
  • H&H terrantez 1976 (6) (SPLIT)
  • Cossart Gordon, Terrantez 1977 (6) (SPLIT)

I got one of the cases of the 1977 D'Olivera's Terrantez at the Christies online auction. Otherwise shut out for the weekend.

Nice - those were appealing, especially because there were a few so I thought they might go reasonably, but I had to draw a line somewhere before I got myself into trouble. :)
