Open new tab (or window) for external links.

Many sites have a feature I like: when clicking on a link which leads to an external site, the page opens in a new tab (since tabbed browsers have become the standard; they used to open in a new window). This preserves my location on the original site (FTLOP in this case) and lets me go back to what I was doing after reading the external article. I know I can right-click and CHOOSE to do this, but I frequently forget.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the suggestion. I will mention it to David and Stewart and see if this can be something they can achieve.
Much appreciated.
Roy

OK, I checked w/ David and he thinks this should be doable and will be checking into it Peter. Thanks again for the idea!

Sorry if you already know this. You can open the link by right click and <Open in New Tab> instead of left-click.

You can also simply Ctrl+Click to open in a new tab, or Ctrl+Shift+Click to open in a new tab and switch to that tab.

As I said, I know I can force it, but I frequently forget to do so. It is a nice feature to make it happen automatically, as it reminds us that the new site is NOT a part of FTLOP.
I've even seen some sites that pop up a warning box requiring you to acknowledge that you realize you are leaving the original site, but I don't think we need that level of "protection" here.

Oops, upon further review, you did say that. Combination of senility, poor vision, and haste on my part

Yep, that's exactly how I forget to force a new tab.

I made the changes necessary to open links external to the forum to open in a new window. Let me know if you have any problems with it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yep, it works just fine. This will make Roy's one-line-wonders (bare links with very little supporting text) much easier to follow.

Thanks.
