For The Love Of Port

Another 1950's Boal.
This one bottled in 2008.
Dark, maple syrup colored with an olive oil rim.
Rich, heady aromas of butter caramel and lots of citrus, blood orange and clementines.
Rich and opulent on the palate, very much in the D'Oliveiras style. More complex citrus flavors. Proper Boal weight and sweetness. Lots and lots of acidity which I like. Could do with a bit more intensity. I'd give it 93 points.
Nice long finish. Cleaner and more precise than the Barbieto tasted a few days ago. The Barbieto has developed an earthy aspect which I appreciated.

I think that this wine was part of the stock that D'Oliveira acquired when they bought the assets of Adegas do Torreao. Do you think that there is any noticeable difference in style from other D'Oliveira boals such as 1968 or 1983? I thought that the 1927 bastardo and 1969 sercial from D'Oliveira were very dry and they both originally came from Adegas do Torreao.

An Ifune '93' is pretty darn good!

I thought it pretty much following D'Oliveiras style similar to the vintages you mention. For me, rich and opulent but with a good whack of acidity.

I had thought that the 1958B might be a little drier. Anyway, it's on the list for my next RWC order. The D'Oliveira's 1971 terrantez and the Barbeito 1986 Faja dos Padres are also on the list, if RWC get them in stock.
