This was on a spur of the moment so I didn't decant it as long as I wanted, probably 4 hours.

The wine was in beautiful condition with a perfect cork but the wine started out very hot and tannic, in fact we all agreed to wait a few more hours before trying any more.

2 hours later the heat calmed way down, the tannins soften, and we were able to have a beautiful drink with all the components of a 93 point wine. I still have a third of the bottle left for this evening and will report back if any changes.

I tackled a bottle of this a year ago, and was not impressed - an almost total lack of bouquet was my biggest gripe...

Maybe a duff bottle - must re-visit

I have consumed over a case of these babies since the early '90s. A good quality VP, never great and consistently in the 90-92 point range for me. Never a complex wine, some bottles can show more heat and aguardente not fully integrated, while the best examples I've had, presented pleasurable but somewhat simple. Certainly not in step with the '85.

I have had similar expereinces to Roy et al but I got it cheap around $30. I still have 15 bottles.
