Wine touring in So. Africa

Post by Roy Hersh »

I have many great memories from time spent in the Cape winelands, over a couple of years and blending wines to import into the USA. Amongst the most famously beautiful wine regions, with numerous appellations ... touring the wineries is an experience that is unforgettable. The food is remarkably great, a nice mix of game meats and birds to splendidly fresh seafood from local waters, as two oceans meet here (Indian and Atlantic). There are even a handful of producers that make very respectable port-style wines, and everything from excellent Chenin Blanc (called: Steen) to phenomenal Shiraz and Cape Cabernet. Oh yeah, they have this unique hybrid grape called Pinotage; but that is a love/hate affair and typically requires an open mind and patience to acquire the taste, although I did find a few that I felt were excellent.

Anyway, enjoy the read:

Also, if you've ever experienced the Cape Winelands, please do share some of your memories and/or favorite places to visit or wines to try.
