TN: 1870 Blandy's Terrantez Vintage Madeira

Post by Steve Shapiro »

Medium to dark brown with green edge. Nose of mango, tropical fruit and a little cinnamon. Broadens to peaches and dried apricots with a little hazelnuts. With time fruit persists, vanilla grows and some coffee appears. On palate peaches, apricots, excellent acidity; mouthfilling, almost effervescent. Long finish with some chocolate. Tastes like Bastardo, and totally unlike 3/07 version that was purchased at the same time from the same source. After 5 hours in glass even better. Dried tropical fruits and apricots, spices, and a fabulous long finish. Initially nose 19 and taste 19 +. Total score 19+/20, which persists at 5 hours. Bottled 1940s or 1962? (3/12).
