I just picked up a bottle of Yalumba 50 year old Tawny Port (desser wine since it is from Australia). Parker gave it a 98. My local merchant also raved about it. Has anyone tried it? FYI, the price was bout $50. It looks like there is another port (dessert wine) from Yalumba that is about $16. Anyone tried that one (don't remember the specifics on that one)?

Never had that one.

The younger Yalumba dessert wines though are ones I look for when out to eat. VP by the glass is a huge risk so I often go tawny/colheita or something like this. The Yalumba is a good wine for the price so perhaps this will be nice as well.

Hopefully you can report back!

I haven't run across the Yaluma 50 year yet, but if the $16 Yalumba port was the 375ml Antique Tawny Museum Release, I have been through a few bottles and enjoyed them quite a bit, as have all who've shared them with me. According to Yalumba's website, which gives a lot of detail on it, it's a blend with an average age of 15 years. I am fairly new to port and have much to learn (and look forward to that learning process), but have managed to sample a number of Australian dessert wines and if you like that style, I feel this is a very good one for the price. Pretty sure Parker and WS both rated it 92, for what it's worth.

Thanks for the replys
