Noval Nacional 1994

Post by Theo Z. »

Long-time user of FTLOP, disappeared for a while due to daughter going through the teen years, now need to save for her college! Hope everyone's well.
Please see listing on wine commune if interested in this monumental port, Quinta do Noval Nacional 1994. Six pristine bottles. Free pick up in NYC area. Shipping at cost elsewhere in the US. Sorry, no international delivery but perhaps a friend could hold it for you? Cheers!

I wish, but I can't go for all six. Who else around here is interested in splitting this up? Also, I might consider trading one of my 1997s. They are going for roughly the same amount at retail.

Thanks very much for your interest. As Roy and others on this board who have tasted the 1994 Nacional know, it's definitely in the running to be as good as the 1963 Nacional. However, this youngster is a lot less expensive! I hope to obtain $650 - $900 per bottle (wine commune offers an auction format).

Theo, is it possible to withdraw the lot from winecommune, if we get enough interest here on FTLOP and agree on a price? You and the buyers will both do better by cutting out the middleman. :twocents:

Yes! And it would be most appreciated if someone in the NY area could pick them up - I'd offer a price towards the lower end of my range just for that convenience!

So far it looks like the following folks may be interested:
Eric Menchen
Steve Pollack
David Spriggs
Eric Ifune

I could offer slightly more than 6 bottles if there's enough interest.

But, does anyone have a creative idea for pick up in NYC, or shipping to 1 person on the West Coast?

I may be in Manhattan on business right after Memorial Day. If so, I can bring the wines back to Los Angeles with me, if they can be delivered to me in a styro container appropriate for shipping. We can probably figure out the logistics from there. Maybe Andy will host a tasting in the near future [friends.gif] , and I can distribute the wines then. Or I can have them shipped (probably in the fall) if it comes to that.

Steve, that's a generous offer. If this works out and you have the time, I'd be happy to open a bottle of 1997 Noval (regular bottling) for you for your volunteering to transport the bottles.

Steve, let us know if/when your plans are finalized.

Everyone else, please let me know how many bottles you would like. In deference to Steve carrying the bottles, let's plan on 6-12 bottles maximum...Steve, please let me know if this is manageable if you make the trip.

For FTLOP friends, I can offer the 1994 Nacional at $700/bottle, a veritable steal, as long as Steve or someone else is able to take care of the transportation.

I would also be interested in 1 bottle. And can consolidate with Glenn's for shipping, as we live near each other.

What a good response...now the following FTLOPers might be interested:
Eric Menchen
Steve Pollack
David Spriggs
Eric Ifune
Glenn E.
Sandy Becker
Marc J.

Still waiting on Steve Pollack's travel plans. In the meantime, could each of you kindly let me know if you really want to commit to a bottle or 2 or 3 at $700 each...with a maximum group limit of 12 bottles?

Thanks a lot,

Theo

Theo, I think I can handle 12 bottles, but I better start working out now! [d_training.gif]

I should know my schedule by early next week, but my trip is likely to happen. Theo, assuming this comes together, would it be possible to meet early in the morning on Friday 5/31 in midtown Manhattan? I would feel much more comfortable taking possession on the day I am probably going to depart. It will be difficult to keep the wines secure in a hotel room, and we are talking about $8400 worth of wine.

I realize that timing will make it impossible to share the 97 Noval, but I do appreciate the offer. [cheers.gif]

Please put me down for 2 bottles if this happens. Thanks, Steve

Yes Steve, that is the least I could do. I believe i might have to be in court that morning around 9am - if so, and we can't meet up earlier, then my partner/mate will deliver the goods. If I don't have to be in court, perhaps I could drive you to the airport? Theo

I would like 2 bottles. I'm sure that Andy could hold on to mine in LA until I can go down and pick it up.

I will also commit to 2 bottles. Mine can reside wherever necessary for as long as necessary. We'll get it figured out!
