#7. Avoid imported wine. REALLY???

Post by Roy Hersh »

This article lists 10 ways a consumer can save money when it comes to wine purchases and practices. I enjoyed the read up until the nationalistic nonsense of #7:

That's because Screaming Eagle is clearly a better value than 30-40 y/o VP because its not imported. Haha.

#7 is total BS. How much does shipping/importation add per bottle in a container? Not that much

I have a hard time seeing value in the model known as "I need to charge $40 a bottle for this because I overpaid for the land. Maybe if I chase Parker points I can cover my land costs."

It's funny, but as I read this list of advice my first instinct was to find all the holes. For the average person (non-vinophile) though, who just wants to drink some "wine" on occasion, most of the advice is actually quite sound.
