It's unknown if they are. I think It's likely, but since they don't know 100% they are not stating that. My understanding is that these were consigned by the same person who consigned the 1827 Boal that I bought last auction. I checked around and IVM selo number and it's very close to some Serrado wines that I could find. I asked them about the provenance and here is what they said:

This is from the consignor:
"I bought these from Christies in London in the 1980's

According to their catalog the wines were discovered in a cave in Madiera about 50 years ago. They were in barrels and were bottled at that time. I purchased 6 bottles of the Bual and 6 bottles of the Malmsay. My wife and I have drank the other nine bottles and all I can say is that they were incredible."

The consignor is in New York and has a custom home cellar. It is likely he is consigning 2 bottles of 1830 Bual in the June auction.

If you have questions I urge you to talk with Frank Martell or Poppy Davis.

I'm very close to Saratoga. Normally I would jump at the chance. But I'm currently sick at home and on disability and not drinking. (long story) So I will have to pass this time. Sorry! Please ping me next time and I should be able to meet up.

Also wishing you a quick recovery. You were missed in San Francisco last month.

Thanks guys for the well wishes! It turned out that after leaving Sociale things really started to go bad and later that same day I ended up going to the emergency room. I did not expect that at all. I should have listened to my wife and not driven to SF. She would have delivered the wines to the tasting. I was sad to not be at the tasting but can't imagine what would have happened if I had stayed. I'm glad that Anh Thu was able to go to the tasting on short notice. It really opened her eyes up to Madeira!

I am much better now and hope to return to work in a week. [beg.gif]

Yes, David, I was either fortunate enough to win them, or dumb enough to overpay! [foilhat.gif] Either way, they will be in my possession soon.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better.
